FLQ_1116_fandhlaw.jpegLevaquin and Avelox can cause serious and sometimes permanent side effects. In July 2016, the FDA strengthened warnings against use of fluoroquinolones, stating the antibiotics are too strong to treat sinus infections, bronchitis and simple urinary tract infections.

According to the FDA, “while these drugs are effective in treating serious bacterial infections, a safety review found that both oral and injectable fluoroquinolones are associated with disabling side effects involving tendons, muscles, joints, nerves and the central nervous system."

Side effects from use of Levaquin and Avelox can occur hours to weeks after exposure. While fluoroquinolones are worthwhile to use for potentially fatal infections, the FDA advises against use of Levaquin and Avelox for more minor illnesses.
