Find me on:

There are more than 2.8 million breast cancer survivors in the United States. Every October, we come together as a nation to honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual international health campaign aimed to increase awareness and raise funds for breast cancer research.

Founded in 1985 by the American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Awareness Month is promoted by a variety of organizations, from Susan G. Komen to the National Football League. Money raised in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month is used to research its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure.FANDHLAW-BCAM-NFL.jpg

Other than skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States. Thanks to research and awareness, millions of women are surviving breast cancer in part due to early detection and improvement in treatment.

Organizations such as the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the American Cancer Society offer resources for both men and women to help with breast cancer diagnosis and survival. Below, we’ve listed several tools for early detection and education:

  • Create an early detection plan and invite others to do the same through the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s Early Detection Plan
  • Discover a comprehensive cancer education resource through the National Breast Cancer Foundation’s Beyond the Shock
  • Explore breast cancer research with American Cancer Society’s online index
  • Uncover support and treatment options with American Cancer Society’s online tools
  • Explore resources for prevention through CDC’s Bring Your Brave campaign
  • Find facts, support, and ways to get involved through Susan G. Komen
