Find me on:

In an effort to grow cancer awareness, every November men and women across the country embrace the idea of 30-days without a razor. Whether you’re participating in Movember, No-Shave November, or just along for the furry festivities, we put together a post of what you might want to know about this month.

Movember

Mov_Found_FANDHLAW.pngYou may think Movember and No-Shave November are one in the same, but there’s quite a difference between the two. In 2003, the Movember Foundation launched in Australia with a focus on the mustache. Since then, men have been growing a ‘stache and raising money (an impressive $21 million in 2013, according to reports) in 21 countries. Nowadays, Movember hopes to serve as a movement not just about facial hair, but also about men’s health in general.

No-Shave November

nsn_full_FANDHLAW.pngNot limited to just the mustache, the goal of No-Shave November is to grow awareness and embracing all types of hair by letting it grow wild and free. Founded on Facebook in 2009, No-Shave November partnered with the American Cancer Society in 2013 to promote a month of growth for both men and women. No-Shave November urges participants to donate money usually spent on haircuts or grooming to cancer research charities.

Participate, Create, Donate

Whether you’re embracing longer locks or wish to donate time and money, there are many ways to participate in No-Shave November. Shirts and bracelets are available online, as well as tips for starting your own fundraising campaign. Should you choose to give up primping for the month, donating that cost (be it $100 for a salon visit or a couple bucks for razors) to a cancer charity instead could help cancer patients and their families.
