Fourth of July: Celebrating the Fight for Justice & Independence

Posted by Ryan Foster on Jul 4, 2016 4:39:06 PM

From picnics to parades, every year we celebrate the day the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Continental Congress. Back in 1776, Americans united to fight for the justice they deserved, ultimately separating from Great Britain rule.

Fighting for justice is a principle on which The Law Offices of Foster & Houston was established. Our founding fathers spoke for those with no voice in British government. At Foster & Houston, our attorneys are inspired by those who speak for the underrepresented; we speak with passion for those who feel they have no voice against companies who have harmed them.

Advocating against injustice has spanned centuries in the history of our country, and we salute those who began the fight on our behalf. With that said, we also know Fourth of July is a day full of family and fun. Below you will find a list of little known facts about Independence Day.

*Did you know…

  • laptop.jpgThomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence on a “laptop.” No, Steve Jobs did not time travel, a “laptop” in 1776 was a writing desk that could fit on one’s lap.
  • Originally we would be entitled to “the pursuit of property.” Thanks to edits by Jefferson, it’s officially “the pursuit of happiness.”
  • While the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776, Congress didn’t declare July 4th as an official holiday until 1870.party.jpg
  • In 1776, about 25 million people lived in the United States. That number has increased tenfold, with more than 323 million people living in America and celebrating Independence Day in 2016!
  • An estimated 150 million hot dogs will be consumed on July 4th.
